What does AWE Nuclear Security Technologies do?
We design, manufacture, and support the UK’s nuclear deterrent, provide emergency response in counter terrorism, and aid the nuclear security of the UK. Finally, we collaborate internationally to uphold the comprehensive Nuclear-test-ban treaty (CTBT).
What will visitors see at your exhibit?
We’ll be giving visitors the opportunity to create their very own blast waves and watch them propagate across the room, alongside a peek behind the curtain into the maths and simulations that underpin our work at AWE.
What physics is used?
We will be discussing the physics of explosions, how we define them, and how we can use the physics of waves and motion to model how they affect their surroundings.
Why is it useful?
This is useful as seeing what the blast waves do after a nuclear detonation is essential in understanding what the effects one might have on different environments.
